My SST Collection | Jim Ruland

Welcome to my ongoing project to document my collection of SST Records. As of this writing I have about 75 SST releases and I’m in the process of scanning and writing about each one. If there’s an active link, that means I’ve begun the process of documenting it. Why these records? I’ve had a few of these items since the early ’90s, but for the most part I amassed my collection during the research and writing of Corporate Rock Sucks: The Rise & Fall of SST Records, which is available for preorder now. I scoured Discogs searching for good deals on original releases. I paid particular attention to records intended for publicity as these often included photos, press releasees, catalogs, and other inserts, which were very valuable to me. Also, some items in my SST collection are actually reprints from other labels.

I am not a collector or a completist so it would be a mistake to assume too much about my taste based on my collection. For instance it would be a mistake to assume I dislike the Stains because I don’t have their rare self-titled record or that I’m way into SWA because I own multiple titles.
